Privacy policy

Who we are

HOWL is an unofficial community ranked platform for WARDOGS, run by volunteers. It is not affiliated with Bulkhead Interactive or Team17. Questions about this policy go to the HOWL Discord.

What we store

When you use HOWL we keep the following:

  • Steam: your 64-bit Steam ID, and the persona name and avatar Steam shows publicly. Steam signs you in; we never see your Steam password.
  • Discord: your Discord user ID once you link it, and whether you are a member of, have left, or are banned from the HOWL Discord server.
  • Play: your region, ratings per mode, match results, your placement and per-match stats, party and pack membership.
  • Fair play: reports you file or that name you, sanctions, appeals, and the scoreboard screenshots submitted with match results.
  • Technical: request logs including your IP address, kept for 30 days to keep the service running and to investigate abuse.

Why we store it

To run a ranked ladder: sign you in, match you with other players, rate the results, and show standings. To enforce fair play: one account per person, reports, sanctions and appeals. To keep the site up and find abuse.

We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers.

What is public

Your player profile is public. It shows your display name, avatar, rating, tier, region, match history and pack. Your Steam ID and Discord ID are never shown on the site.

Third parties

  • Steam (Valve): sign-in through Steam OpenID and profile data through the Steam Web API.
  • Discord: the HOWL bot, account linking, and optional sign-in with Discord. Discord sees the requests you make through it.
  • Cloudflare: sits in front of the site and sees your IP address and requests, as any web proxy does.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays while your account exists. You can unlink Discord or delete your account from your account page.

Deleting clears your profile (name, avatar, Discord link, region) and removes you from search and the leaderboards. We keep your Steam ID, ratings, match rows and any sanction. A ranked ladder cannot let deletion double as a way to shed a ban or a bad rating, and the other players in your matches keep their history. Signing in again with the same Steam account restores your profile.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes are announced in the HOWL Discord.
